Pumpkin patch visit! Last week I shared about our trip to Wills Orchard and Pumpkin Patch, this week I have our group trip to Geisler Farms in Bondurant, Iowa. We went with a stay-at-home parent group so we had the entire place to ourselves on a weekday morning. It was $5 a person – we took a hayrack ride, played in the farmyard for 2 hours, and then everyone got to choose a small pumpkin to take home. It was so much fun!

You can see more specific details on the Geisler Farms page or check out its location on the interactive map.

Pumpkin Patch Visit: Wills Orchard in Adel Iowa

Wills Orchard and Pumpkin Patch is so much fun! I always recommend it for young babies and toddlers who don’t need a lot to be entertained; they added some new activities this year that weren’t there in 2015, but the focus is mainly on being outside and on the pumpkins! We went to both Wills and Center Grove Orchard last year, which is probably the most popular in the area and over the top, but took a return trip to Wills when my family was in town this past weekend.

You can see more specific details on the Wills Orchard page or check out its location on the interactive map.

Park Visit: Pammel Park

Pammel Park in Winterset, Iowa

I’ve been meaning to go check out Pammel Park this entire summer, and we finally made it! This is a Madison County park, down in Winterset. It has two very unique features, shown in the collage above, a tunnel to drive through and a ford to drive over. There are several trail options, all with dirt footing and heavily wooded. We had a lovely morning and will definitely be visiting again!

You can see more specific details on the Pammel Park page or check out its location on the interactive map.

Park Visit: Swanson Memorial Park with a Historic Caboose, Train Depot, & General Store

This past week we were able to explore a true hidden gem – the Swanson Memorial Park in Clive, Iowa! It’s easy to miss even though it’s alongside a major intersection; the park has a small green space, picnic tables and bench, an old caboose, a historic train depot, and an old-time house/general store. The park is maintained by the Clive Historical Society, and their website has some really fantastic videos and photographs alongside lots of information. The caboose and open space are available and open to the public every day, making it a great spot to stop and explore and relax (free wi-fi!) or have a lunch. Checking out the train depot and house require a tour, hosted by one of the volunteers from the historical society. You can see more specific details on the Swanson Memorial Park page or check out its location on the interactive map.

Park Visit: Ashby Park

The last time I went to Ashby Park, I was 8 months pregnant and my son was 2. We visited in the heat of summer and the wading pool has some really nice shady spots… that I totally did not get to enjoy because I spent the entire time waddling after him and intercepting his water toy thefts. This park is super popular but it took me almost 2 years to come back after that experience! You can see more specific details on the Ashby Park page or check out its location on the interactive map.
